How to Clean Your Bedroom Thoroughly and Efficiently: A Quick & Easy Guide

Your bedroom is supposed to be your sanctuary, a place where you lie down at the end of the day and let your worries drift away. Instead, your bedroom quickly turns into a storage area where you dare not let anyone enter. Learn a quick cleanup for your room that will let you find the bed and the floor. Create the peaceful bedroom you deserve with our step-by-step cleaning guide.

Grab your supplies

Few of us have supplies to clean the bedroom actually stored in our bedroom. Gathering all supplies together before beginning the job will keep you from getting distracted and failing to complete the job. What you'll need:

  • Vacuum (with a hand attachment)

  • Dusting supplies of your choosing (like a gentle, all-purpose cleaner and an old wash rag)

  • A broom (or something with a long handle)

  • An old pillowcase

  • Window cleaner, wash rags

Clean your bedroom in this order:

1. Declutter and pick-up

Since you're in a hurry, don't worry about unrolling socks, and pulling shirts right side out. These tasks are easier to do while sorting the laundry. Just grab all of the dirty clothes and place them in the hamper. Take things that don’t belong in the bedroom out. Throw dirty clothes laundry into hampers and rehang up any outfits that you may have tried on and left out. Clear off your surfaces as much as you can of things that don’t normally go on them.

2. Take an old pillow case and dust your fan blades

(If you have a fan) or clean out any ceiling light fixtures. (Important to keep your dirty sheets on your bed to catch any falling dust and spider webs.)

3. De-spider web

Spider webs are pretty easy to remove. All you need is a broom or a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment. Once you’re armed with one of these cleaning tools, simply remove the spider web.

4. Start the laundry

Strip your bed and take all your dirty laundry from the hamper and start a load in the washer.

5. Dust all surfaces

Pay special attention to the nightstand and dresser tops. Don’t just dry dust, use a moist cloth to really swipe up dust and lock it away from resettling. Don’t forget about the tops of mirrors, art and any accessories in the room. Curtains need dusting, too. Lampshades, window treatments, and light fixtures collect dust as fast as the other furniture pieces in your room. This important step helps clear your bedroom of allergens as well.

6. Wipe surfaces clean

Now that your bedroom is free of clutter, the next step is to wipe down all surfaces. Choose the appropriate cleaner, whether that be a dusting spray, glass cleaner, or antibacterial wipes, for your surface and get to work. Wiping down the tops of tables is obvious, but also pays attention to the legs of chairs and fronts of dressers and nightstands. If you have a four-post bed, take some time to clean the posts and your headboard, as these rarely-touched features are prone to dust bunnies.

7. Wipe the windows and the mirrors with window cleaner

Let the light shine through your windows without any smudges or scratches disrupting your view. With a streak-free cleaning service Toronto agent, wipe down all windows or glass-panelled doors in your bedroom. While you're at it, wipe down mirrors as well. If you have young kids in the house, be sure to wipe down low, as there are probably tiny fingerprints at the bottom of the windows.

8. Wipe/dust the blinds and vacuum the curtains

Use a hand attachment with your vacuum to get to the hard-to-get spots.

9. Vacuum or sweep the floor

A bedroom that's spotless from top to bottom isn't possible without cleaning the floors. If you have hardwood floors, remove and vacuum any rugs before sweeping the entire floor. Sweeping should get the job done; save mopping for a deeper seasonal clean. For carpeted bedrooms, beat the dust bunnies with a vacuum.

10. Remake the bed

Take the time to try something new out so it feels like your room is clean and fresh or to save time, make your bed using a spare set of sheets while your original linens wash. Once your laundry is ready, replace the duvet cover over your comforter.

11. Set up your nightstand like a pro

Focus on function as well as aesthetics.
