The Ultimate Move-In Cleaning Guide & Checklist

Even though your new home may look clean, there still might be some hidden spaces filled with dirt, dust and germs. There is no better time to clean your home than before you move in, so it is recommended to look around every corner and crevice when cleaning your new house.

To make it easier to clean your new home before moving in, we have created a cleaning checklist for you to download. It includes all the cleaning tasks you need to handle when you are ready to move into a new space.

View the checklist on your phone or hang it on the refrigerator of your new home and tick as you go.

How to clean the house before moving in?

It is recommended to clean up your new home before you move in because it will be much easier to clean without all your belongings filling the rooms. If you have to tackle everything else during the transition and do not have time to clean the space yourself, consider hiring a move-in cleaning service to take care of it all for you.

Some Cleaning Tips

If you decide to go about the job yourself, we suggest you consider the following steps:

  • Start with the refrigerator

It is very important to have a clean space to store food. Spray a solution of diluted vinegar and water on all the surfaces of your fridge wiping them down with a damp cloth.

  • Clean the rest of the kitchen

Clean the kitchen first so you can move some food into your house. Wipe from top to bottom and ensure that all electrical appliances are completely cleaned. There is no need to worry about the floors at this stage.

  • Next comes the bathrooms

You will want to thoroughly clean and disinfect all the surfaces of the bathroom to prepare for a fresh start.

  • Clean the rest of the rooms

From top to bottom, clean the remaining rooms in the house. Dust fans and lamps, clean windows and window frames, clean baseboards etc. To save time, try to complete each task throughout the entire home, not one room at a time.

  • Finish off with the floors

Mop the floor after you have swept or vacuumed it. Clean the carpets as thoroughly as possible. This process will be easy if the house is not furnished.
